UC Berkeley and UC Berkeley Extension have announced that the default grading basis for all undergraduate courses will be Pass/No Pass, instead of a Letter Grade (ex. A, B, C, D, F) for the spring semester.

This only applies to course numbers in the 1-199 course level, such as MCELLBI X110 or ENGLISH X100.

You will still be able to choose to receive a Letter Grade.

If you intend to transfer credit from UC Berkeley Extension to another school, you should contact your other school’s academic advising office to see if Pass/No Pass grades are acceptable for transfer. If not, you may wish to follow the steps below to request to receive a letter grade.

If you plan to apply your course to an Extension program, we will be allowing Pass/No Pass grades to meet most program requirements.

If you wish to receive a letter grade for your spring undergraduate-level course, please follow the steps below:

With various counties issuing shelter-in-place orders, effective 12:01 am on Tuesday, March 17 we’re closing UC Berkeley Extension facilities in Berkeley (GBC and ABSW), San Francisco, and Belmont. Protecting the health and safety of members of the campus community remains our top priority.

Remote instruction will continue through May 16 via Zoom, teleconferencing and other virtual platforms for lecture, discussion and seminar courses. We will also maintain virtually all administrative and student support services, from whom you’ll receive more information about next steps.

Please take care of yourselves, do your part to “flatten the curve,” and slow the spread of COVID-19, respect those around you in accordance with our Principles of Community, stay up to date on COVID-19-related developments on campus and be well.

Also remember to focus on keeping yourselves and your loved ones healthy. At Extension, we’re committed to providing all students with the necessary accommodations and resources as we navigate these difficult circumstances together.

We will continue to update you as we learn more.

Today we are announcing UC Berkeley Extension actions designed to help limit coronavirus (COVID-19) risk. There are no confirmed cases at UC Berkeley at this time. However, as local, national and global public health recommendations shift to include mitigation of transmission, we are proactively taking steps that will help to protect the community.

Beginning Tuesday, March 10, we will be suspending most in-person classes and will be offering ALL lecture courses through alternative modalities (e.g., Zoom video conferencing, course capture, etc.) through March 29.

We are working with instructors to deliver as much of their content as possible using Zoom, Panapto video, or the platform deemed appropriate by your instructor. Your instructor will communicate the next steps and relevant information regarding the delivery of your course to you shortly.

DSS will continue to partner with instructors to ensure students' disability accommodations are provided, particularly students who use remote captioning, ASL, accessible formats, proctoring or note-taking. Please contact extension-dss@berkeley.edu for additional questions or assistance regarding accommodations.

Please remember to focus on keeping yourselves and your loved ones healthy. At Extension, we're committed to providing all students with the necessary accommodations and resources as we navigate these difficult circumstances together. While COVID-19 represents an enormous challenge to our community, we will do all we can to support your education.
