Corporate social responsibility has become a major buzzword in today's business sector, seen as a key to a positive public image and the ability to attract and keep quality employees. This trend is changing the face of corporate engagement at nonprofits, both in terms of giving and employee volunteerism.
These new opportunities for nonprofits to attract funds, visibility and volunteers come with new challenges. What actions might nonprofits need to take in order to attract and make effective use of these resource streams? How might development professionals and volunteer managers build and maintain fruitful relationships with businesses that are interested in supporting nonprofit work? What are some ethical concerns that nonprofits may encounter with increased corporate engagement?

Estelle Ulanday Davis, M.P.H., Senior Manager of Corporate Engagement at the Exploratorium
Estelle Ulanday has worked in nonprofits for more than 11 years, with a focus in museums, community organizing, education, youth development, environment, health equity and LGBT+. From serving as a Director of Development to focusing on corporate partnerships, Estelle's focus is to nurture mutually beneficial and sustainable partnerships that advance social justice. She volunteers as a board member of a collectively run non-profit in Oakland, Cycles of Change.
Karolo Aparicio, Annual Giving Officer, Bay Area Leads Fund at the San Francisco Foundation
Karolo Aparicio has led fundraising efforts at organizations such as GRID Alternatives, the Sierra Club, Global Fund for Women, EcoViva and International Rivers. He earned a Master’s degree in Anthropology from Vanderbilt University, and an M.B.A. from San Francisco State University, where he also earned his B.A. He is a Certified Fundraising Executive and is a frequently invited lecturer and workshop facilitator on fund development and non-profit management.

Dustianne North, Lead Instructor, Professional Program in Fundraising and Volonteer Management
Dustianne North is a national expert and a program developer, technical assistance provider and evaluator serving a wide array of human services programs nationwide since 1995. Most often serving families in highly distressed situations, Dr. North emphasizes community-driven and volunteer-based efforts and is committed to emancipatory practices in both her practice and research. Her diverse scope of knowledge covers a range of issues including youth and family services development and implementation, volunteer management, community organizing and mobilization, and fundraising and development. She currently serves as the Research Director for the California Mentoring Partnership, is a trainer and technical assistance provider via the California Prevention Initiative and the Crisis and Recovery Enhancement project (both under the California Department of Health Care Services), and collaborates extensively with other public and nonprofit entities.
